Shot from directly above the cockpit of the Toyota 89C-V during the 1989 FIA World Sportscar Championship, it captures Johnny Dumfries helmeted and strapped in, reflected back up through the dark void of the open cockpit, the bare metal roll hoop cutting across the frame like a piece of sculpture.

The angle is everything. There is no track, no crowd, no action. Just the vivid chrome yellow of the Toyota bodywork flooding the composition from edge to edge, Denso and Toyota lettering scattered across the battered, textured surface of the car, the number 31 visible in the top corner. A looping red squiggle of painted detail cuts diagonally through the image, adding a graphic, almost abstract quality that sits in sharp contrast to the raw mechanical detail below it. Paint splatter and scratched linework add further grit and depth, making the whole piece feel worn, tactile and alive.
